STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Former Stony Brook women's lacrosse standout Kylie Ohlmiller '18 announced her retirement from the sport of lacrosse, concluding one of the most accomplished careers in women's lacrosse history.

"Today, I announce my retirement from playing professional lacrosse. I am eternally grateful to my time at Stony Brook for the bounds I was lucky enough to make in my playing career. I wouldn't have been half the player I was without my time growing under Coach Spallina and his staff," Ohlmiller said. "I credit all of my success to the 40+ sisters I got the chance to share the locker room with between 2014 and 2018. I would not have had the career I did without our teams' constant belief in each other, the moments spent pushing each other to be better, and the overall memories we all made chasing greatness & history books together. Some of my favorite moments happened at LaValle, and I'll never forget them. Forever a Seawolf."

Ohlmiller competed for the Seawolves from 2014-18 and finished her collegiate career as the NCAA's all-time leader in both assists and points. Over four seasons, she recorded 498 points on 252 goals and 246 assists, cementing her place among the most dominant offensive players the sport has ever seen.

The Islip native helped the Seawolves to four straight America East Conference titles during her time on Long Island and played a pivotal role in the program's first-ever NCAA Championship quarterfinal appearances in both 2017 and 2018. Her performance helped propel Stony Brook women's lacrosse to national prominence.

"Kylie is one of, if not the best, to wear that uniform. She was a player that attacked her dreams everyday like it was her last. She helped elevate our program to elite status with an infectious attitude and approach," Stony Brook women's lacrosse head coach Joe Spallina said. "I can remember her recruiting visit like it was yesterday and it was an incredible run from her very first game until being able to win a gold medal together representing the United States of America. Coaching Kylie Ohlmiller was truly an honor."

Ohlmiller was a three-time All-American, two-time Tewaaraton Award finalist, two-time America East Player of the Year and a four-time All-America East First Team selection. In 2017, she delivered one of the most remarkable seasons in NCAA history, becoming the first player in Stony Brook and America East history to be named a Tewaaraton Award finalist while setting the NCAA single-season record with 164 points, a mark that still stands today.

During her senior season in 2018, Ohlmiller once again led the nation in scoring with 157 points and was named a Tewaaraton Award finalist for the second straight season. She guided Stony Brook to an undefeated regular season and the program's first-ever No. 1 national ranking. The Seawolves also captured their sixth consecutive America East Conference title, solidifying the program's place among the nation's elite.

"Kylie will forever be regarded as one of the greatest ambassadors and players the sport has ever seen," Stony Brook Director of Athletics Shawn Heilbron said. "Beyond the records that she set and the accolades that she earned during her playing career, her legacy will be most closely connected to the countless little girls she inspired to pick up a stick and play lacrosse."

Ohlmiller stepped onto the scene in 2015 as a freshman and immediately made an impact. She was named America East Rookie of the Year, selected all-conference first team and earned a spot on the America East All-Championship Team. She also received Honorable Mention Lacrosse Magazine Mid-Season All-American and Inside Lacrosse Mid-Season All-American Third Team honors. In the America East Championship game against No. 16 UAlbany, she led the team with six points, including five assists and one goal, helping the Seawolves secure the first of her her four America East Championships as a Seawolf.

The attacker picked up right where she left off as a sophomore, earning IWLCA All-American Second Team honors and a spot on the Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team as a sophomore. She was also a Tewaaraton Award nominee for the second consecutive year. Ohlmiller led the team in assists with 47, ranked second in points with 91, and was third in goals with 44. Her assist total ranked fourth in the nation, while her 91 points were fifth nationally. She contributed a goal and three assists in the America East Championship victory over UAlbany and added two goals and two assists in an NCAA First Round win at Boston College.

Following her graduation, Ohlmiller continued her career professionally and internationally. She was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 Women's Professional Lacrosse League draft, playing two seasons with the New York Fight. She also competed with Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse since 2021. Ohlmiller won gold with the U.S. Women's National Team at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's Championship and was named to the 2024 U.S. Women's Box Training Team. In 2025, she joined the New York Charging of the inaugural Women's Lacrosse League, competing in the league's first-ever Championship Series.

Ohlmiller remained closely connected to Stony Brook after her playing career, serving as a volunteer assistant coach from 2019-21. She was inducted into the Stony Brook Rita & Kurt Eppenstein Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2023 and has served as a color analyst for women's lacrosse broadcasts since 2022. She now owns her own training company, KO17 Lacrosse, which focuses on preparing the next generation of lacrosse players.

A native of Long Island, Ohlmiller attended Islip High School, where she scored 112 goals during her senior season and earned US Lacrosse All-American honors.

Congratulations to Kylie Ohlmiller '18 on an extraordinary lacrosse career. You've left a lasting legacy at Stony Brook and throughout the sport.
