PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Seawolves suffered their first loss of the new year on Thursday when they were defeated by Drexel 56-37 on the road.

How It Happened

  • Richard Goods and Erik Pratt got the offense off to a fast start with Goods winning the tip-off and promptly cashing in with a layup before twice connecting with Pratt on a pair of three-point plays to give the Seawolves an 8-4 lead.
  • The Dragons would take their first lead of the night at 12:38 after back-to-back buckets made it 14-13. Drexel's run would extend to ? Unanswered as they grew their lead to 21-13 inside of six minutes. Stony Brook's scoring drought finally ended after eight minutes at 5:45 when Jonah Butler came up with the steal and got the ball to Goods who made the tip-in.
  • Rob Brown III cut the deficit to three when he made his second three-pointer of the night at 4:26. A free throw from Oleg Kojenets made it a two-point game with three and a half to go as Drexel's scoring drought reached nearly five minutes.
  • Over the final three minutes, a three-pointer from Quin Gorman accounted for all of the team's scoring as the Dragons added nine more to extend their lead to 30-22.
  • Four minutes into the half, the Seawolves found themselves trailing by 10 as the Dragons continued to shoot efficiently from beyond the arc. Down 38-26, It would take until 11:43 for Stony Brook to get its first field goal in the half on a layup from Pratt.
  • With the Seawolves defense holding Drexel scoreless for over six minutes, a layup from Gorman at 8:57 was enough to briefly cut the lead down to seven. It did not take long for the Dragons to respond, though, as they rebuilt their lead to 12 over the next two minutes and continued to pull away down the stretch, culminating in their victory.
