WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Stony Brook women's lacrosse extended its win streak to eight straight on Sunday, defeating William & Mary 18-9 thanks to several big performances headlined by
Isabella Caporuscio, who scored her 100th career goal in the win, and
Braeden Siverson, who set the new single-game program record with 18 draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves opened up the game with a bang, as Caporuscio secured the opening draw and raced downfield to score just nine seconds into play. Both teams were then held scoreless for the next nine minutes, with each side's defense keeping the other at bay, until a goal from
Haydin Eisfeld broke the drought, making it 2-0 in favor of Stony Brook. Two of the next three goals would be scored by the Seawolves, allowing them to take a 4-1 advantage into the second quarter.
Stony Brook continued to pad its lead in the second quarter, scoring three straight goals, to go ahead 7-1 with 8:52 remaining in the first half. The Seawolves' offense kept applying pressure for the rest of the quarter, but were unable to score again as good goalkeeping from the Tribe prevented Stony Brook from running away with things. William & Mary closed the first half scoring with a free position goal as the home team now trailed the Seawolves by five at the half.
Just like the first half, Stony Brook began the second half with a goal in the opening minute as
Keira Martin found twine, giving the Seawolves a six-goal cushion. This lead only lasted a few minutes as the Tribe answered with the next three goals to cut their deficit in half at 8-5. Stony Brook responded by quickly building back up its lead, starting with a goal from Caporuscio, the 100th of her career. This goal sparked the Seawolf offense as they fired in the next six goals to close out the quarter, taking back control with a 15-5 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
Stony Brook added three goals to its total in the fourth quarter, while William & Mary notched another four goals as the game wrapped up, with the Seawolves closing out the 18-9 win.
