STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Four Seawolves captured CAA Women's Lacrosse Major Awards, while seven in total garnered All-CAA distinction.
Isabella Caporuscio (Midfielder of the Year),
Hailey Huebner (Defensive Player of the Year) and
Mirabella Altebrando (Rookie of the Year) were all unanimously selected and
Joe Spallina was voted the CAA Co-Coach of the Year.
Caporuscio and Huebner were tabbed to the All-CAA First Team, being joined by Julia Fusco. Altebrando earned All-CAA Second Team honors along with Natalia Altebrando, Allie Masera and Braeden Siverson. Mirabella Altebrando also earned CAA All-Rookie distinction.
Caporuscio earns a second straight CAA Midfielder of the Year honor and is the fourth consecutive Seawolf to earn the honor. The back-to-back recipient of the league's top midfielder has produced multi-point efforts in all 17 games this season, including at least three goals in 10 contests. Her 50 goals on the year are second in the conference, while her 65 points sit third. Defensively, she has caused 2.35 turnovers and picked up 2.59 ground balls per game. Caporuscio is one of two players nationally with at least 50 goals and 2.00 caused turnovers per game.
Huebner put forth one of the most dominant seasons by a defensive player in league history to secure Defensive Player of the Year, Stony Brook's second straight. A six-time CAA Defensive Player of the Week honoree, she is averaging 3.47 caused turnovers per game and is looking to become just the fifth player to finish a campaign with at least 3.5 caused turnovers per game. Her 59 forced miscues are also the fourth-most in a single season in CAA history.
Mirabella Altebrando erupted for 60 points in her first season at Stony Brook, posting 16 goals and 44 assists en route to becoming Stony Brook's first-ever CAA Rookie of the Year. Her 44 helpers were also second in the conference and 14th nationally. The Long Island native's 60 total points rank seventh nationally among freshmen, while her 44 assists sit second among the first-year players, trailing only Clemson's Alexa Spallina (67). In addition to her CAA Rookie of the Year honor, Altebrando secured All-CAA Second Team and CAA All-Rookie designations.
Spallina earned his fourth straight CAA Coach of the Year honor, joining James Madison's Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe (4x, 2016-19) and Towson's Sonia LaMonica (4x, 2011-14) as the only coaches to do so. The Seawolves earned their fourth consecutive regular season crown after another perfect season in league action and listed a league-high eight all-conference selections, with three garnering major accolades. The Seawolves won by a margin of 10.0 goals per game in conference play and will look to extend their perfect 36-0 record (regular season and postseason) against CAA opponents since joining the conference in 2023. Under Spallina's guidance, Stony Brook has won 76 straight conference contests. The Seawolves sit at No. 4 in the latest NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse RPI Ranking.
Fusco totaled 53 points (42 goals, 11 assists) in her sophomore season on Long Island, earning All-CAA honors for the second straight year. Her 42 goals are second-most on the team and fourth-most in the CAA, while her 53 points are seventh most in the league. Fusco netted a goal in 16 of Stony Brook's 17 contests this season, scoring multiple goals in 12 games. She registered seven hat tricks and poured in a season-best five goals in three games (vs. Monmouth, vs. Towson, vs. Arizona State).
Natalia Altebrando finished the regular season a perfect 11-0 in cage for Stony Brook, the most in the CAA. She also led the conference with a 6.81 goals-against average, good for the second-best mark in the nation. Altebrando's .421 save percentage was fourth-best in the league, while her 56 saves and 3.73 saves per game ranked eighth in the CAA.
Masera was an integral part of Stony Brook's defensive unit that completed the regular season as the seventh-best scoring defense in the country, conceding less than eight goals per game. She finished third on the team with 35 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. Masera's 35 ground ball pickups are tied for sixth-most in the conference.
Siverson dominated the draw circle all season long, finishing with a conference-best 126 draw controls and 7.41 draw controls per game. Siverson won 18 draw controls, setting a new single-game program record and a CAA benchmark earlier this season, exceeding former Seawolves' standout Ellie Masera's 17 in 2024. Siverson put together six games with double-digit draw controls.
Stony Brook sets its sights on a fourth consecutive title defense, hosting No. 4 Elon in the CAA Semifinal on Thursday, April 30. Opening draw is set for 12 pm at LaValle Stadium, streaming live on FloCollege.
