STONY BROOK, N.Y. — For a fourth consecutive season, Stony Brook women's lacrosse has won the CAA Championship as it took down Towson 18-7 today at LaValle Stadium, punching a ticket to the NCAA tournament for the 13th time in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves would open the scoring quickly, scoring on the first shot of the game, as Katie Walsh put it in, set up by a caused turnover by Isabella Caporuscio. Over the next five minutes, Stony Brook tacked on another two goals, going up 3-0. The early Seawolf run was answered by a pair of goals from the Tigers, cutting their deficit to one. Stony Brook closed out the quarter with two out of the next three goals to take a 5-3 lead into quarter number two.
After the Seawolves scored the first goal of the second quarter to go up three, Towson then tallied the next three goals, tying the game at 6-6 with 8:46 left to play in the first half. Julia Fusco broke the tie five minutes later, putting Stony Brook back in front. She then added another goal in the closing moments of the first half, as the Seawolves now led 8-6 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Stony Brook was able to pad its lead as Caporuscio ripped off three straight goals, giving the Seawolves an 11-6 advantage with 3:37 remaining in the third quarter. Walsh added another goal to close out the third, putting Stony Brook up six heading into the final quarter of play.
The Seawolves would put the finishing touches on their championship victory in the fourth quarter, adding on six goals to secure the 18-7 win and a fourth consecutive CAA championship.
STATS AND NOTES
- Stony Brook's championship victory is its fourth straight conference championship since joining the CAA, and 12th overall in program history.
- The Seawolves are just the second program ever to win four straight conference championships in the CAA.
- With today's win, Stony Brook improves to 38-0 in conference and conference tournament games as a member of the CAA.
- Additionally, the Seawolves have now won their last 99 games against a conference opponent, a streak dating back to the 2014 season.
- Caporuscio scored six goals, dished out an assist, scooped up four ground balls, and caused five turnovers. Her six goals were the most in a CAA Championship game since 2014, helping her earn the 2026 CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player award.
- Walsh tallied a season-high five goals.
- Fusco had five points on Saturday, scoring four goals and handing out one assist. She also contributed three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Haydin Eisfeld (two goals) and Jeilinne Bonilla (one goal) rounded out the Stony Brook goal scorers.
- Mirabella Altebrando dished out a game-best seven assists, a new career-high for the freshman.
- Hailey Huebner was a force on the defensive end, forcing five caused turnovers, while also scooping up five ground balls.
- The Seawolves bested the Tigers in ground balls (26-19), shots (41-13), and shots on goal (30-9).
- Today's win makes it 24 straight wins for Stony Brook as a program in conference tournament games.

With today's historic victory, the Seawolves are once again heading to the NCAA Tournament. Stony Brook will find out their seeding tomorrow at 9 pm during the selection show, which will air on ESPNU.
