STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook women's track and field athlete Grace Weigele is officially heading back to the NCAA regionals after qualifying for the 5,000-meter in the NCAA East First Rounds. She will compete in the National Semifinal on Saturday, May 30 at 8:10 p.m. in Lexington, Ky. on the campus of the University of Kentucky.

Weigele, who last qualified in 2024, punched her ticket to Kentucky with her 15:57.24 time back on March 27 in the Raleigh Relays. This time ranks third in Stony Brook history. In her last time out, Wiegele earned a silver medal in the 5,000m in the CAA Championships with a time of 17:27.33.

All of this comes after another strong outdoor season from the graduate student. At the start of the month, she posted another top-10 finish in the 5K with a 16:06.29 in the Larry Ellis Invitational. She also set a PR in the mile (4:47.56) back on April 10 in the Friar Invitational.

In her last trip to the NCAAs in 2024, Weigele finished 33rd in the 5K after running a 16:29.71.

The 2026 NCAA East First Rounds will be held from Wednesday, May 27 to Saturday, May 30. The winners will advance to the NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore., from June 8-13.
