STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook University women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2026 campaign in convincing fashion, defeating New Haven 5-0 on Sunday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
Stony Brook's pressure was immediate, seeing Allison George found the back of the net with a top‑left finish, assisted by Emanuelly Ferreira from the near corner, giving the Seawolves an early 1‑0 lead. The goal was the first of George's collegiate career.
Minutes later, Eva Sprewell doubled the advantage with a long strike from her right foot, pushing the score to 2‑0. New Haven managed only three shots in the first half, two of which were on target, and were limited to a single corner. Stony Brook logged 10 shots in the opening half.
The second half saw Stony Brook's offensive engine rev up. Early in the half, Hedvig Helling finished from a tough angle to the bottom right of the net, assisted by Maya Corbett and Camryn Goodman, giving the Seawolves a 3‑0 cushion. The goal sparked a rapid succession of scores: Emily Lemke converted a penalty kick to make it 4‑0, and Leah Rifas, assisted by Addison Brys, provided the icing on the cake in the final moments make it 5‑0.
Stony Brook's shot total swelled to 28, with 11 on target, while New Haven managed just four attempts, two on goal.
Stony Brook's defensive steadiness was evident as Jona Hennings recorded a second save before being substituted for Marissa Read in the second period. Read contributed a single save, keeping the Seawolves' clean sheet intact.
