BOSTON, Mass. -Â Stony Brook got a pair of goals from Emily Lemke in a 2-1 victory over Harvard on Thursday evening. Jona Hennings made seven saves, and none bigger than one on the doorstep in the final moments to secure victory for the Seawolves.
A couple of minutes in, a giveaway in the defensive third led to a one-on-one for a Harvard forward against Hennings, who was deep off of her line. Hennings scrambled to get back and in doing so cut off the attacking angle, stopping the first attempt and causing the second try to miss wide of the net and keep things scoreless.
Stony Brook opened the the scoring when Lemke scored her third goal of the season from the penalty stripe in the 17th minute. Lemke drew contact herself in the box and stepped up to convert the PK. Minutes later, Lemke added another after going airborne to re-direct a cross from Hedvig Helling.
Stony Brook carried the 2-0 advantage into the intermission and continued to hold strong defensively into the second half. Harvard finally got on the scoreboard to make it a 2-1 match on Brooke Huleatt's 82nd-minute goal. The Crimson had four more shots in the final seven-plus minutes of play, with two coming in succession that Hennings stopped and watched helplessly as the other sailed wide of the cage. Harvard's final chance at an equalizer came just before the buzzer, once more traveling wide of the net.
