Trezza Chosen As ABCA Third Team All-American

June 11, 2001

Stony Brook, NY -- - Alex Trezza learned Monday morning he was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-America Team. Trezza - recently drafted by the Detroit Tigers - earned his second All-American honor of the season, selected to the Third Team.

A two-time All-Northeast and All-ECAC selection and a Third Team All-American selection by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, Trezza hit .337 this year with a slugging percentage of .790 and also drew a career-high 36 walks.

Trezza led the Seawolves in nine offensive categories, including homeruns and RBI where he hit 23 and 68, respectively. The homeruns and RBI were the most in a single season in the program's history. With those totals, he also became the all-time homeruns and RBI leader this season.

Trezza was the 537th pick overall in Major League Baseball's First Year Player Draft, chosen by the Detroit Tigers in the 18th round.

He is the first All-American not only in the history of the Stony Brook baseball program, but in its Division I history.
