Seawolves Fall To Central Connecticut

Sept. 22, 2000

Box Score

New Britain, CT -- - It was the fourth time in 12 matches the Seawolves went to a deciding fifth game Friday night at Central Connecticut. Unfortunately, the Seawolves were on the outside of a 14-16, 15-5, 15-7, 10-15, 15-10 decision to the Blue Devils, who won for the second straight time after an 0-10 start.

Rachel Goldsmith got the Seawolves off on the right foot in game one, registering a dozen kills and was the deciding factor. However, the Seawolves once again showed vulnerability in games 2 and 3, losing 15-5, 15-7. It was the 11th time in 12 matches the Pack has lost game two and the 10th time in as many matches it has lost game three this season.

Stony Brook won game four in convincing fashion, 15-10. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game five and did not look back in registering the win. The Seawolves got to within 8-4, but could get no closer.

Senior Cynthia Orengo had 16 kills and five blocks in the match - becoming Stony Brook's all-time blocks leader with 354. She broke the record of 353 set by Ellen Chang in 1988. Orengo already holds the school record for block assists in a career with 199.

The Seawolves registered a 63-52 lead in kills and had 13 more digs than the Blue Devils, but committed 17 more attack errors. Four players registered in double-digits in kills, led by Goldsmith. Katie McCabe had 12 kills and hit a season-high .417, committing just one error in 24 attempts.

Alison Fields had 51 assists and had a team-high 17 digs. Susanne Westing had 15 digs.

The Seawolves head to the LIU Invite next Friday and Saturday.
