Seawolves Lose Double-Digit Lead, Fall To ULL

Starkville, MS -- Louisiana-Lafayette (5-3) used a 16-3 run over a span of 6:06 in the second half to erase a 13-point deficit and defeat Stony Brook (7-4), 76-67, in the consolation game of the Mississippi State Tournament Sunday afternoon. Jill George posted her second straight double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

It is the first time in six tournaments that the Seawolves have lost both games.

Sherry Jordan's tip-in with 17:37 remaining gave Stony Brook its biggest lead of the game at 41-28. However, over the next 6:06, the Seawolves scored just one field goal and allowed the Ragin Cajuns' 16 points.

Brooke Williams jumper with 12:31 left tied the score 44-44 and ended the Cajuns run. The teams exchanged leads for the next six minutes until Dekita Williams' three-pointer gave the Cajuns the lead for good with 6:44 left. The Seawolves got to within 62-60 on George's free throw with 3:24 left. But ULL answered with a 9-1 run over the next 1:40 to put the game away. The Cajuns scored their last nine points at the free throw line.

George paced the Seawolves to a 33-26 halftime lead with 12 points inside. With 3:31 left in the first half, Stony Brook went on an 8-2 run and took its biggest lead of the half at 33-24 on George's lay-up on the left side of the basket. Despite committing 16 turnovers in the half, the Seawolves hit 47% of their shots and outrebounded the Cajuns, 21-15. The Seawolves committed a season-high 29 turnovers in the loss.

Jordan finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Kelli Cofield collected 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Seawolves are off until December 28 when they head to Penn for a 7:00 p.m. game broadcast on the Seawolves web site.
