Trio Leads Seawolves To Win Over Maine, 68-57

Stony Brook, NY - Jessica Burch scored 17 points and had 10 steals, one of three players in double figures, as Stony Brook (10-6) beat Maine (4-10) Thursday night at the USB Sports Complex, 68-57. It was the fourth win in a row for Stony Brook and its 11th straight inside the USB Sports Complex.

The Seawolves jumped out to a 17-3 lead and took a 29-22 advantage into the locker room at intermission thanks to Burch's 11 points.

The Black Bears came out on fire in the second half, using a 10-0 run in the first 2:38 of the second stanza to take their first lead of the game at 32-29. Freshman Heather Ernest started the run with a jumper - two of a team-high 15 points for the Bears. She also had 10 rebounds, registering her eighth double-double of the season.

Melissa Heon ended the run with a steal and lay-up and with a three-pointer. She finished with 10 points.

Jill George's jumper got the Seawolves the lead back for good just over a minute later at 33-32. George tied her career-high with 17 points and also had six rebounds.

With Maine trailing 35-34 with 14:33 left, the Seawolves used a 10-4 run to build a 45-38 lead . Maine got as close as 51-48 with 3:01 left on Julie Veilleux's free throw, but would get no closer the rest of the way. Veilleux had 11 points for the Bears.

The Black Bears held Stony Brook's leading scorer Sherry Jordan without a point in the first half. The freshman exploded for 15 in the second half. She also had 12 rebounds, seven assists and six steals. It was her sixth double-double of the season.

Burch recorded 10 steals on the night - breaking the school record of 9 she tied twice. She now has a team-high 52 on the year.

Maine lost for the fourth straight time.

The Seawolves head to Albany Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. encounter with the Great Danes.
