Pack Guns To Turn Around Fortunes At Albany

TONIGHT'S OPPONENT: Albany comes into tonight's game with a 3-13 mark, having lost six of its last seven. Liz Tucker leads the Danes with 13.2 points per game - one of two in double figures. Jess McGinlay is averaging 10.2 points per outing. Tucker is also grabbing 5.7 rebounds per game.

THE SERIES: Albany holds an 11-10 edge in the series winning both games last season. Stony Brook had won nine of the first 10 meetings between the teams. Albany has since won 10-of-11.

SIX FIGURES: The Seawolves have not beaten Albany on the road since the 1989-90 season when Dec McMullen's team had to go to double overtime for the 87-79 win. It is a span of six games.

LAST MEETINGS: Last season, Albany defeated the Seawolves, 72-61, at the USB Sports Complex on January 11 and 67-52 on February 5 in Albany. Senior Liz Tucker was the thorn in Stony Brook's side in both games, scoring 22 points at the Complex and another 10 points and nine rebounds on Albany's home floor.

159 IN THE RPI: Stony Brook moved up another 71 spots with its win over Maine on Thursday night in the RPI. The Seawolves were at 262 less than a week ago- but their recent three-game winning streak has them moving up fast.

AGAINST THE INDEPENDENTS: The Seawolves only two meetings against an independent team during its brief Division I stay have come against Albany - both losses.

FINALLY - THE CRIME IS COMPLETE: Jessica Burch picked off 10 steals against Maine Thursday night - setting the school record for steals in a game. Burch tied the record of nine set by Mary Schelp on two other occasions. Just a sophomore - Burch is seventh on the all-time list with 163. She broke the single season total last year with 111.

PICKIN' POCKETS: Not only did Jessica Burch set a school record for steals in a game against Maine, but the team's 21 total steals was the second highest in school history. Stony Brook had 25 last season at home against Columbia.

ROAD STREAK ENDS: Stony Brook buried the skeletons that haunted it on the road Monday night at Cornell. The Seawolves shot over 50% from the field, scored 82 points and had just 11 turnovers - tying the school record for the second straight game in winning on the road for the first time in five games.

BLOCK-BUSTER: Jill George registered her 50th career block on Thursday night - moving to sixth all time on the Seawolves list. She is second on the team with 21 this season. more impressively, George has scored in double figures in each of the last three games and is in the middle of her best stretch of the season.

SIX FIGURES, II: After being held scoreless in the first half against Maine freshman Sherry Jordan scored 15 points and registered her sixth double-double of the season. Jordan posted unreal numbers with 15 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and six steals.

JORDAN 15TH IN SCORING: Stony Brook Seawolves freshman forward Sherry Jordan is ranked 15th in the nation in Division I scoring in the January 10 release of the NCAA stats. Jordan is averaging 20.9 points per game during the team's first 15 games. She is second to Houston's Chandi Jones in the category. Jones has averaged 21.4 points per outing in 14 games. Jordan has eclipsed the 30-point mark twice this season - scoring 32 against UC-Riverside and most recently, 31 at Cornell on Monday night. She has scored in double digits in all 15 games this season and is the team's leading rebounder and scorer.

BURCH STIRRING THE DRINK: Sophomore point guard Jessica Burch has recently relished in her roll as the team's point guard. She had eight assists, five steals and seven points against Cornell Monday - committing just three turnovers. Against Lehigh last week, she had five assists, five steals and four rebounds with just two turnovers. Burch played 38 minutes in each game. Thursday against Cornell, she scored a season-high 17 points and registered her first career double-double with 10 steals.

ROBERTS CORALS ANOTHER AWARD: Stony Brook head coach Trish Roberts was recently selected as the Three Village Times/Beacon Record Newspapers Woman of the Year. Roberts was selected for the award based on her character and career success.

AS THE POST GOES, SO GO THE SEAWOLVES: Junior's Kelli Cofield and Jill George have provided great post presence for the Seawolves in the team's wins over Lehigh, Cornell and Maine. while both scored in double figures against Lehigh and Cornell, George made it three straight by tying her career-high with 17 points in the victory over Maine. It is the best three-game stretch of the season for George.
