THE SCENE: Stony Brook hosts Dartmouth tonight at the USB Sports Complex at 7:00 p.m.
STREAKS: Stony Brook has won three of its last four and owns an 11-game home winning streak....Dartmouth won its last game, but lost seven-in-a-row before that.
TONIGHT'S OPPONENT: Dartmouth comes into the game with a 2-11 record - defeating Yale Saturday night in its last outing, 55-51. Sophomore Katherine Hanks leads a team with nine underclassmen on it. The 6'1" forward is averaging 14.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game - both team highs. Sherryta Freeman is the only other Big Green player in double figures with 10.1 points per game.
THE SERIES: Dartmouth won the only meeting between the two schools last season, 85-66.
LAST MEETING: Stony Brook and Dartmouth met for the first time last season, with the Big Green winning, 85-66, in Hanover, NH. Katherine Hanks was one of five players in double figures for Dartmouth, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. It was the first meeting between the two teams.
ON THE REBOUND: The Seawolves look to bounce back from its 83-59 loss at Albany Saturday night. It was the worst loss since Stony Brook fell at Rider, 85-58, on November 20, 1999 - a span of 41 games.
256 IN THE RPI: Stony Brook dropped several spots in the latest RPI and is now at 256 this season of the 318 Division I schools.
SIX-PACKING IVY: This is one of six games the Seawolves will play against Ivy League schools. The Seawolves are 1-1 this season against them and 4-3 overall. Stony Brook lost to Penn and defeated Cornell this season.
FOUR OF FIVE: Two players will make their first career starts tonight when the Seawolves take the floor. Freshman Theresa LoParrino and Danielle DeGiorgio will start for the first time. Four freshmen will start tonight marking the most freshmen to be in the starting lineup in the Division I era.
JORDAN 16TH IN SCORING, BURCH 31ST IN STEALS: Stony Brook Seawolves freshman forward Sherry Jordan is ranked 15th in the nation in Division I scoring in the January 10 release of the NCAA stats. Jordan is averaging 20.9 points per game during the team's first 15 games. Jordan has eclipsed the 30-point mark twice this season - scoring 32 against UC-Riverside and 31 at Cornell. She has scored in double digits in all 15 games this season and is the team's leading rebounder and scorer. Sophomore guard Jessica Burch cracked the top steals leaders in the nation. She is averaging 3.1 per game and is ranked 31st in the nation.
HOME SWEET HOME: The Seawolves come into tonight's game having won its last 11 games inside the USB Sports Complex dating back to last season. Eight of those wins have come this season. Their last home loss came January 20 of last season as the Seawolves fell to Cornell, 65-51.
COX TIES MARK: Freshman Tamika Cox played a career-high 29 minutes on Saturday night and made good on it. The freshman scored seven points, tied her career high with six rebounds and had two blocks.
ROAD WOES CONTINUE: Stony Brook's 24-point loss at Albany Monday night was more of a recurring theme than anything else this season. It was the fifth loss in six road games during the year. Stony Brook has shot just 36% away from the Sports Complex and been outscored by almost 10 points per game.
FINALLY - THE CRIME IS COMPLETE: Jessica Burch picked off 10 steals against Maine Thursday night - setting the school record for steals in a game. Burch tied the record of nine set by Mary Schelp on two other occasions. Just a sophomore - Burch is seventh on the all-time list with 163. She broke the single season total last year with 111.
