Stony Brook, N.Y. -
In their first dual meet since Dec. 16, the Stony Brook Seawolves fell to Binghamton on Saturday afternoon at University Pool. The Bearcats defeated the Stony Brook women's team, 125-105, while the men fell by a score of 122-104.
The diving tandem of Kristi Schubert and Erin Byrnes swept the one- and three-meter diving events, coming in first and second, respectively. Colleen McGrath led Binghamton with two individual first-place finishes, winning both the 1000 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
On the men's side, it was Binghamton's Tom Volper, Jese Morenus and Aytac Gurbuz leading the way as each won two individual events. However, it was freshman Chris McGuire who stole the show. McGuire's time of 1:52.96 in the 200 butterfly set a new pool record at Stony Brook, breaking the old mark of 1:55.5 held by William Bird. The Bearcats picked up nine victories on the afternoon en route to the 122-104 win.
The Stony Brook women fall to 3-6 with the loss, while the men now stand at 2-6. Binghamton's men's team improves to 4-5, and the women are 5-4.
Stony Brook returns to action next Saturday as the Seawolves host St. John's at 1 p.m.
