It looked as though Stony Brook had Northeastern right where they wanted them. Up 1-0 in games and holding a 26-21 adavantage in game two, the Huskies stormed back to take the game, propelling them to a 27-30, 30-27, 30-20, 30-22 victory Saturday afternoon at the SBU Sports Complex.
It marked the eighth win in nine matches for Northeastern (14-6, 4-0 AE) - who stays atop the America East Conference with the victory. Stony Brook (9-11, 2-2 AE) lost for the second time in five matches.
Gianina Pelligrini started the 9-1 run for the Huskies with one of her 13 kills in the match, helping eradicate the 26-21 deficit with seven straight points. Kristin Ursillo served six straight times as the Huskies took a 28-26 lead and closed things out on a Kristin Deatherage kill and a ball-handling error by the Seawolves.
Northeastern cruised from there. A Stony Brook attack error started a 12-3 run in game three, turning a 17-16 tightly-contested game into a comfortable 29-19 advantage. Northeastern hit .323 in the game.
Tied at 13-13 in game four, Northeastern used a final 14-5 run to put the game and match out of reach.
Ursillo had 41 assists, seven kills and nine digs and Deatherage had 15 kills and hit .419.
Rachel Goldsmith had 18 kills and 10 digs - hitting .316 to lead the Seawolves - one of three players wih double-digit totals. Valerie Maloy had 15 kills, seven digs and four service aces. Debra Falkenberg collected 14 kills and nine digs.
