Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Lee Anne Jasper netted the game-winning goal with 3:35 remaining to give Yale a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Stony Brook at a windy University Field Wednesday afternoon. The win improves Yale's record to 4-5-1 while Stony Brook drops to 1-10-2 on the year.
Stony Brook roared out to a 2-0 advantage in the first half on goals from Krisha Zagura and Lisa Mariano in the first 20 minutes of action. Zagura knocked home a beautiful cross from Kerri McCabe at 5:55 and Mariano pushed the lead to 2-0 when she slipped a shot by Yale's Lindsay Sabel off a restart from Beth Arikian at 19:53.
Yale began its comeback on a pair of goals from its top scorer, Ali Cobbett. Cobbett raced down the middle of the field and flicked a right-footed shot into the corner of the Seawolves' goal in the 30th minute which sent the Bulldogs into halftime trailing 2-1.
Cobbett evened the score at two at 58:21, taking a pass from Jasper at the top of the penalty box and rifling a low shot inside the left post past Seawolves' goalie Lori Nelson. Jasper then notched the gamewinner late in regulation, settling a head ball from Ritha Belizaire inside the penalty area and her left-footed shot found the upper half of the net to give Yale the comeback win.
Sabel made two saves for Yale to earn the victory, while Nelson stopped six shots in the loss.
The Seawolves are back in action this Sunday when they travel to Northeastern. Kick-off is 1:00 p.m.
