Cold shooting by the Seawolves and a hot hand by St. Mary's Julie Morris led the Gaels to a 73-46 victory over Stony Brook in the St. Mary's Classic on Friday night.
Stony Brook (1-2) shot just 9-of-38 (24 percent) in the first half, while St. Mary's (2-1) hit 14-of-25 shots, leading to a commanding 40-25 lead at the half. Morris nailed seven of her eight attempts for 16 first-half points.
The second half began much the same way, as the Seawolves went scoreless for the first 7:30 of the second stanza. Danielle DeGiorgio's basket at 12:23 ended the drought, but St. Mary's still held a 58-27 edge. The Gaels went on to the 73-46 win.
Morris ended up with a game-high 25 points for St. Mary's.
Sherry Jordan led the Seawolves with 11 points, and Jill George and Theresa LoParrino added six points apiece. Danyelle Ingram also scored six points in her first game as a Seawolf.
Stony Brook will face James Madison tomorrow in the consolation game of the St. Mary's Classic. Tipoff is 5 p.m. PST.
