GAME BACKDROP:The Seawolves make their first 2001-02 public appearance tonight as they host the New York Gazelles in an exhibition contest. Stony Brook returns 10 letterwinners and four starters to this year's team.
ABOUT THE GAZELLES: The New York Gazelles are a team made up of former college players. Each year, the Gazelles tour, playing several exhibition games against college teams. The Gazelles had five players in double digits, paced by Lawanda Greene with 18 as New York beat Fairfield last night in double overtime, 97-88. Lottie Watson and Starr Fuller each netted 17 points apiece.
THE SERIES: Stony Brook met the Gazelles in the preseason last year, coming away with a 73-55 win. It was an especially impressive debut for Theresa LoParrino, who poured in 22 points, burying six, three-pointers. Jill George had 11 points and five rebounds and Sherry Jordan collected seven rebounds and seven assists.
FRESHMAN DEBUT:Lebanon, PA native Stephanie Barlett makes her collegiate debut tonight. The 5'9" guard posts an impressive outside shot and has the ability to drive. Stony Brook's other two newcomers - junior Malica Jibowu and Danyelle Ingram are sidelined with injuries.
