Three Laxers Earn Preseason All-America Honors

Dec. 18, 2001

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Kevin Pall, junior Eric Hatkewitz and senior Steve Armsworthy were recognized as preseason honorable mention All-Americans in the Face-Off Yearbook released by Inside Lacrosse on Dec. 18. It is the first time in the program's Division I history that a Stony Brook player has received All-America honors.

Pall staked his claim last year as one of the best attackman in Division I lacrosse, scoring a school record 50 goals and leading the country in scoring averaging 3.57 goals per game against one of the toughest schedules in the nation. Hatkewitz emerged as a force as a long-stick middie last season while Armsworthy starred in the goal in his first season with the Seawolves. The Catonsville Community College transfer posted a 6-3 record to go along with a 8.62 GAA and a .643 save percentage. Armsworthy's .643 save percentage ranked third in the nation behind only Trevor Tierney of Princeton and Pat McGinnis of Maryland.

John Warrack (1984) and Chris Scaduto (1985) are the only other players in Stony Brook lacrosse history to earn All-America status. Both did so when Stony Brook competed at the Division III level.

Stony Brook will begin its first season as a member of the America East this spring after competing for the past two years in the ECAC Lacrosse League.
