Stony Brook, NY -- Head Coach Trish Roberts announced Tuesday the hiring of Lorraine Morrissey as an assistant women's basketball coach for the Seawolves. Morrissey joins assistant coaches Vincent Cannizzaro and Silver Shellman on the Stony Brook bench.
Morrissey replaces Myra Fishback, who has moved on as the Assistant Director of Compliance in the athletic department at Stony Brook.
Morrissey graduated from LIU-Southampton in 1995 after an illustrious four-year basketball career. She collected over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, playing two seasons at Dowling College and two at Southampton. She was a two-time all-conference player at Southampton.
Morrissey comes to Stony Brook following a one-year stint as an assistant coach with Sacred Heart University. She helped the Pioneers to a 15-14 mark and an appearance in the Northeast Conference semifinals last season.
"Lorraine brings with her a wealth of recuiting experience," said Roberts. "Her familiarity of Long Island will benefit our program greatly in the recruiting process. I'm very, very excited to have her aboard."
Morrissey has remained in the New York area as a coach most of her career, beginning at Division II Pace University. Following two years as a graduate assistant, she moved up to the assistant coaching role for the next three seasons before moving on to Sacred Heart. The Setters made the NCAA Tournament during the 1999-2000 season, receiving an at-large bid.
Morrissey received a bachelor's degree in social science from Southampton and a master's degree in education from Pace in 1997.
Morrissey currently resides in Bay Shore, NY.
