Deb Falkenberg had 16 kills and 13 digs and Rachel Goldsmith collected 19 kills, 10 digs and four blocks as Stony Brook downed Binghamton Tuesday night in women's volleyball, 30-26, 28-30, 30-25, 30-19 at the SBU Sports Complex. It was the 10th straight time Stony Brook (4-4) has beaten Binghamton (1-6) and marked the fifth straight loss for the Bearcats.
Following an 11-4 lead by the Bearcats on back-to-back service aces by Jennifer Smith, game one was nip-and-tuck as Stony Brook drew within 15-14 on a Falkenberg kill. The game remained tight and was tied at 26-26 when Danielle MacKnight and Jaime O'Connor each had kills and Deb Falkenberg had a service ace to help close the game.
Binghamton took off in game two, building a 16-5 advantage before the Seawolves stormed back to tie the game at 23-23. Goldsmith had six kills during the run. The game was tied at 27-27 when the Bearcats ran off three straight to win the game, keyed on kills by Allison Beard and Jennifer Smith.
Michele Heck's service error gave the Seawolves a 19-6 cushion in game three and the Seawolves pushed it to a 25-9 lead on a ball-handling error by Sara DeClemente. Binghamton rallied, scoring 17 of the next 23 points to get within 27-23, but could not close the gap further. Beard had three of her nine kills during the run.
Stony Brook led from start to finish in game four, building a 16-7 advantage thanks to four kills by Goldsmith. The Bearcats never got closer the rest of the way.
Smith had 10 kills and eight digs for Binghamton and Sara DeClemente registered 35 assists and 11 digs.
Julie Zub collected 52 assists for the Seawolves and Danielle MacKnight had one block solo and five block assists.
