The Stony Brook volleyball team (18-12/3-4) lost sole possession of third place Saturday afternoon as a result of a 3-1 (30-28, 21-30, 19-30, 22-30) loss at the hands of the Northeastern Wildcats. The Seawolves' attack was out-hit by the Wildcats .073 to .137
Stony Brook did have some bright spots on offense as senior LaToya Byerly continues to play a major role. Byerly finished the match with 11 kills, just one behind the team-leading 12 kills tallied by junior Rachel Goldsmith. Sophomore Julie Zub killed a total of five balls and assisted on 31.
The Stony Brook defense was rallied by sophomore Danielle MacKnight who blocked a match-high six balls. Zub dug a team-high 21 balls and was followed by sophomore Abby Egan's 16. Goldsmith recorded a double-double thanks to her 13 digs.
The Wildcats took advantage of three members of the team who each posted double-digit kills. Lindsay Wagner led all with 14 and she was followed by Rebecca Holland's 13 and Erin Spangler's 10.
The Seawolves finish their road schedule with a trip to Orono, Maine, on Nov. 10. The final road match of the season for Stony Brook is set to begin at 1 p.m.
