Stony Brook at Manhattan Game Notes
What: SB at Manhattan at Sacred Heart University, Wed. March 6 at 2:00 p.m.
Game Backdrop: Stony Brook looks for its first win of the season on the road against Manhattan. The game will be played at Sacred Heart University.
Last Time Out: Stony Brook fell just short in its upset bid last Saturday against No. 12 UMass. The Seawolves held a 7-6 lead after roaring back to take to lead with four straight goals. UMass tied it shortly thereafter and Dan Paccione notched the gamewinner with 52 seconds remaining.
Series Record: SB leads all-time series 2-1
On A Roll: Senior attackman Kevin Pall scored twice in the loss to UMass. The two goals ran his streak of consecutive games scored to 31.
Last Year: Stony Brook earned a convincing 13-4 win, their third straight, at home over the Jaspers. Pall scored four times to pace the atttack and Matt Campolettano chipped in with a hat trick as SB improved to 6-6.
Facing Off: Denis Scannell and Dennis Nafte split time facing off for the Brook. The duo combined to win nine of 18 face-offs against UMass. Nafte won five (.556) of nine draws on the afternoon.
Injury Report: Starting goalie Steve Armsworthy went down with a knee injury in Saturday's game versus UMass. He had a MRI done on his knee on Monday to determine the extent of the injury and will miss the game against Manhattan.
Philing In: Promising netminder Phil Reed was supposed to be Armsworthy's understudy this season. Well, that plan last all of 44 minutes before Armsworthy went down with an injury. Reed stepped in and made two saves in the final quarter against UMass. He will earn his first collegiate start today against Manhattan.
Two For Denis: Senior midfielder Denis Scannell scored twice in the season opener last Saturday. He also scooped up a team-high seven ground balls.
Conlon's Debut: Freshman attackman Steve Conlon was terrific in his Seawolf debut against UMass. He scored the first goal of his career and the first of the season only 58 seconds into the game. He finished with a goal and two assists on the day.
Closing In On 100: With his two goals last weekend, Pall upped his career point total to 95, only five points shy of the the century mark. He will become the 13th player in school history to accomplish the feat, the fifth since the move to Division I. He also needs 14 goals to reach 100 for his career. Only one other player in school history has reached the 100 goal plateau. Courtney Wilson scored 112 goals from 1994-97.
Pall's 86 career goals ranks fifth all-time.
Lax Facts: Jon Tompkins scored a goal against UMass . . . Brian Abrams also tallied for the Seawolves . . . four freshman saw action last week - Conlon, Reed, Kyle Pearl and Mike Kirschner.
