Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Marist at Stony Brook Game Notes, Wednesday, April 3, 3:00 p.m.
Game Backdrop: Stony Brook seeks its third straight win as it plays host to Marist in a non-conference matchup Wednesday afternoon. It is the first meeting between the two teams since April 9, 1997.
Last Time Out: Stony Brook earned is third conference win of the year with a solid 12-8 win over Vermont on Saturday. Kevin Pall and Steve Conlon recorded hat tricks to pace the Seawolves attack. George LaFlare added a pair of goals in the win. Steve Armsworthy made nine saves to earn his fourth win of the year.
He's Number One: Kevin Pall made Stony Brook lacrosse history last Saturday with his hat trick against the Catamounts. Trailing all-time goals leader Courtney Wilson by two entering the game, Pall found the net three times to take over the number one spot all-time with 113 career goals. Pall did it all in just three seasons, having not scored a single point in his freshman year.
The Series: Stony Brook holds an 8-2 edge in the all-time series between the two teams.
Eight Is Enough: Eights are wild for the Stony Brook lacrosse team as it begins play in April. The offense ranks eighth in the nation at 12.00 goals per game while the defense also places eighth, yielding only 7.50 goals per game.
A Scoring Defenseman: Kyle Pearl was named America East Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week on Tuesday totaling a goal, three assists and 13 ground balls in two games. It marked the third straight week that a Seawolf has won the Rookie of the Week honor. Steve Conlon won it the previous two weeks. Against Vermont, he scored his third goal of the year making him the first defensemen to score at least three goals in a season - joing Ed Havel (1994) as the other other defenseman in school history to do so. He has seven points on the year, the most ever recorded by a close defenseman in the program's 19-year history.
Conlon Can: Freshman Steve Conlon recorded his first career hat trick against Vermont to raise his season-goal total to 11 on the year. He is second on the team in scoring with 21 points.
Brian's Song: An interesting side story to the 2002 season is the emergence of senior Brian Abrams. Having totaled only four points through his first three seasons, Abrams has totaled eight points so far this season on three goals and five assists. His best game came against No. 14 Navy with he touched up the Midshipmen for a goal and two assists. He has recorded a point in each of the last three games.
