Women's Basketball Cruises Past Luxembourg 71-38

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Freshman Jessica Smith posted game-highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Stony Brook past Luxembourg 71-38 in the Seawolves' final exhibition matchup on Sunday afternoon at the SBU Sports Complex.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half, with SBU shooting just .333 (12-36) and Luxembourg managing just a .348 (8-of-23) field goal percentage. The Seawolves took a 30-19 advantage into the locker room behind Smith's 13 first half points.

The Seawolves opened the second on a 12-5 run capped off by a layup by Inbar Orion to take a 20 point lead, 44-24, just over eight minutes in. A three pointer by Danyelle Ingram and a basket by Theresa LoParrino gave the Seawolves a 32-point advantage, 65-33, with a minute to go.

Smith led four Seawolves in double figures. Orion added 12 points and 10 boards, while Bojana Bogetic and Ingram chipped in 10 points each. Kelly Watson dished out a game-high eight assists in the win.

Krisztina Bernath led Luxembourg with nine points.

The Seawolves open the 2003-04 season on November 22 when they host St. Bonaventure.
