Women's Hoops Bested By Charlotte 88-77

Philadelphia, Pa. - Stony Brook rallied from a 15-point first half deficit but it wasn't enough as the Seawolves fell to Charlotte, 88-77, in the consolation game of the Hawk Classic in Philadelphia. The loss was the fourth straight for SB which slipped to 1-7.

After falling behind 30-15 over the first 11 minutes of the game, the Seawolves stormed back with a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to make it 32-27 at the 4:51 mark. Stony Brook went on to outscore the 49ers, 26-10, over the final nine minutes of the half with freshman Mykeema Ford netting eight of her 12 first-half points in the final 5:21 to give the Seawolves a 41-40 halftime advantage.

Stony Brook extended its lead to 47-42 at the 17:19 mark before Charlotte used a 12-7 run to tie the game at 54 just over four minutes later. The 49ers then put together a 16-4 run to take a 12-point lead at 70-58 with 7:58 remaining. SB crept within six at 70-64 at the 6:42 mark on a basket and a pair of free throws by Theresa LoParrino. Charlotte then went back up by 11 on two free throws by Andrea Davidson and a three-pointer by Peaches Harris with 5:52 on the clock to put the game out of reach.

The 49ers connected on 13-of-30 three-point attempts in the game, led by Leslie Cook who finished 5-for-7 from downtown.

Ford finished with a game and season-high 23 points while Jessica Smith added 13 points and 14 rebounds. Sherry Jordan also recorded 14 rebounds. Inbar Orion added 13 points and Kelly Watson had 10.

The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when they host Harvard. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
