Final Stats
The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team improved to 5-4 on the year thanks to two goals from the stick of Kerri McCabe and three from Joanna Katz that helped push the Seawolves to a 13-8 victory over the St. Francs Red Flash (0-5).
The Seawolves controlled the game early when goals from Stephanie DeGennaro and Danielle Werner found the back of the net just over eight minutes in. St. Francis would respond with a goal from Lucille West at the 20:48 mark, but the Seawolves' advantage would eventually swell to 7-3 at the half thanks to Katz' first of three goals on the day and two goals apiece from McCabe and Jill Gridley.
The second half began much like the first when Jennifer Joyce put the Seawolves up 8-3 with a goal at the 23:04 mark, but St. Francis would respond with a rally of their own. The Red Flash proceeded to reel of four unanswered goals that cut the Seawolves lead to 9-7. Stony Brook responded by going on a 4-1 run of its own, with Katz scoring two and Beth Arikian and Vanessa Bishop chipping in the others.
Defensively Werner, Annie Pugh and Arikian were strong holds for Stony Brook. Werner caused four turnovers and took four draw controls on the day. Pugh caused three and collected one ground ball and Arikian had a team-high four ground balls to go along with her goal. Gina DeNezzo tallied 13 saves in the Seawolves' victory.
Stony Brook is back in action Wednesday when they host Central Connecticut at 7 p.m
