The Stony Brook men's and womens' swimming and diving teams swept the University of Vermont and St. Peter's College on Saturday afternoon at University Pool. The men defeated Vermont 78-26 and St. Peter's 76-19 to up their record to 6-4 on the season, while the women outlasted Vermont 63-50 and St. Peter's 91-18 to improve their record to 5-6.
The women's team featured eight first place finishes in the swim events. Kim Harris was victorious in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, also joining Alison Porteus, Shirlee Manoogian and Jamie Bevilacqua to win the 200 medley relay. Manoogian continued her dominance this season, taking first in the 100 freestyle and 200 IM. Porteus touched first in the 100 breaststoke and Bevilacqua was victorious in the 200 freestyle. On the diving board, Hailey Lewandowski impressed with the top scores on both the 1 meter and 3 meter board.
The men's team was equally impressive with nine first place finishes of their own. Jason Ferrara led the way for Stony Brook, touching the wall first in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle events. Billy Fick showed his all-around talent, taking first in the 100 backstroke and outlasting teammate Matt Hanson in the 200 freestyle. Hanson finished first in the 100 butterfly and joined Nathan French, Kirill Alexseyev and James Payne to win the 200 medley relay.
The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow morning against the University of Maine at University Pool beginning at 8:45 a.m.
