Women's Basketball Tops Brown 70-54

Miami, Fla. - The Stony Brook women's basketball team bounced back from a bad loss yesterday afternoon to top Brown 70-54 in the consolation game of the FIU Sun and Fun Classic on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Seawolves improved to 2-6 on the season, while the Bears fell to 6-4.

Trailing 19-13, midway through the first half, the Seawolves took control of the game as they closed the half on a 12-2 run fueled by back-to-back three pointers by Jessie Boylan and Stephanie Barlett to take a 25-21 advantage at the break. SB held Bears to just one basket over the final 6:28 of the stanza.

The Seawolves came out on fire in the second, using a 9-2 spurt capped by a Kelly Watson three pointer to take a 34-24 lead three minutes into the half.

Brown's Sarah Hayes responded with back-to-back three point plays to cut the margin to five at 34-29 with 15:26 to play. That was as close as the Bears could get as SB then went on a 24-7 run to open up a 21-point lead at 58-37 with under eight minutes to go.

Mykeema Ford, who was named to the all-tournament team, led all scorers with 20 points to go with six assists, while Jessica Smith added 13 points. Boylan finished with career-highs of 12 points and nine rebounds, while Watson chipped in with 11 points. Dana Ferraro also set a career-best with a game-high four blocks.

Hayes led Brown with 17 points, while Holly Robertson added 14 in the loss.

The Seawolves are back in action after the new year at Harvard on January 3 at 7:00 p.m.
