Petra Glaser scored 27 points and Jayme Connors added 18 as Long Beach State outlasted Stony Brook, 88-82,in the final game of the Holiday Inn Express Invitational on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 0-4 on the season, while the 49ers improved to 3-1.
LBS opened the second half with a 19-11 run behind six points from Glaser to grab an 11 point lead with 14:23 to go in the game. SB responded by outscoring the 49ers 21-10 over the next 7:14 to tie the game at 69 on a layup by Inbar Orion.
Glaser answered SB's run with a layup to again put LBS in front and spark a 9-2 run over the next three minutes as the 49ers took a 78-71 advantage. The Seawolves would get no closer than five the rest of the way on a Mykeema Ford jumper with 3:33 to go.
Jessica Smith led SB with 21 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Ford chipped in with 18 points and eight assists, while Kelly Watson added 11 points.
Crystal McCutcheon added 17 points and five assists for the 49ers, while Christina Mack netted 11 points in the victory.
The Seawolves are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to take on Providence. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
