Seven Seawolves found the back of the net as Stony Brook cruised to a 14-5 victory over St. Francis (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon at the Pine Bowl. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 4-3 on the season, while the Red Flash falls to 0-8.
Beth Arikian opened the scoring just 32 seconds into the contest before Jill Gridley's free position tally 1:05 later made it 2-0 SB. Carlee Buck, Amy Taylor and Andrea Venditti all would find the back of the net to give the Seawolves a 5-0 edge at the break.
Just under a minute into the second half, Gridley took a feed from Venditti and Taylor followed with her second of the game to make it 7-0. Katy Green broke the shutout with a free position goal at the 20:32 mark, but SB answered back with three straight goals, including back-to-back scores by Marrisa Trachtenberg, to push the lead to 9-1.
Liz McCague made it 9-2 with an unassisted tally at 12:48, but SB went on to score four of the next five goals, two by Leann McCabe, to up the lead to 14-3 and put the game away.
McCabe led the Seawolves with three goals, while Taylor, Arikian and Venditti each added a pair of goals and an assist and Stephanie DeGennaro posted three helpers.
Jen Sandtorv turned away four shots to earn her fourth win of the season.
The Seawolves continute their two-game road swing in Pennsylvania Thursday afternoon at Duquesne at 2:00 p.m.
