The Stony Brook volleyball team improved to 2-0 to begin the 2004 season with a 3-0 sweep of Canisius on Saturday afternoon at the Western New York Invitational. Senior Danielle MacKnight put away 12 kills in 15 attempts to set a Stony Brook record with an .800 hitting percentage for the match, while fellow senior Maria Samilo posted a match-high 17 kills to lead a Seawolves' offense that saw four players tally double-digit kill totals.
The Seawolves had little trouble with Canisius, defeating the Golden Griffins 30-23, 30-24, 30-21 to take their second match at the Western New York Invitational. Four Seawolves posted double-digits in kills as Samilo led the way with 17, MacKnight recorded 12, Melissa Votruba added 11 and Sarah Bauer chipped in 10 in a balanced Seawolves attack. As a team, Stony Brook hit .383 for the match.
Julie Zub was once again the catalyst for the Stony Brook offense, assisting on 51 kills, while Morgan Sweany recorded 17 digs in the victory.
Stony Brook is back in action later this afternoon when the Seawolves face Buffalo at 4:30 in their final match of the Western New York Invitational.
