Women's Basketball Breezes by Quinnipiac 87-61

Hamden, Conn. - Mykeema Ford led four Stony Brook players in double figures with a game-high 19 points as the Seawolves earned an 87-61 victory over Quinnipiac on Monday night at Burt Kahn Court. Ford finished 6-for-10 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three point range, while dishing out a game-high eight assists as the Seawolves began their season 2-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 campaign.

With the game knotted at 20-all with 6:52 remaining in the first half, Stony Brook took control, outscoring the Bobcats (0-2) 19-9 behind five points each from Ford and Dana Ferraro to close the half with a 39-29 lead.

Quinnipiac cut the lead back to seven on a jumper by Sofia Kyritsis shortly into the second half, but the Seawolves responded with an 11-3 run over the next 3:30 to push the lead to 15 points at 51-36 with 15:30 to play.

Later in the half, SB would use a 12-2 spurt that saw six different Seawolves score to make it 83-57 with 3:07 remaining and put the game away.

Ferraro collected her first double double of the season, finishing with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Leah Getz netted 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and Kelly Watson chipped in with 11 points.

Jackie Harris led Quinnipiac with 12 points and six rebounds in the loss.

The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday, November 30, when they host BYU beginning at 7:00 p.m.
