Smith, Ferraro Sweep America East Women's Basketball Awards

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's Jessica Smith was named the Wilson Player of the Week for the first time in her career, while teammate Dana Ferraro earns her first Rookie of the Week award of the season, America East announced on Monday afternoon.

Smith's offense was a huge factor in the Seawolves 2-0 week, as the sophomore averaged 26.0 points while shooting nearly 70 percent (23-33) from the floor in wins over Vermont and first-place Hartford. Smith started the week with a career-high 30 points along with seven rebounds versus the Catamounts. Her 30 points tied her for the 10th-best single-game total in school history. She capped it off with 22 points, five rebounds and three steals in the upset of the Hawks.

Ferraro was unstoppable on the boards for the Seawolves, averaging 16.0 rebounds per outing, while also chipping in with 6.0 points and 4.0 assists. In the win over Vermont, Ferraro pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to go with six points, three assists and a block. In the win over Hartford, she exploded for a career-high 19 rebounds and five assists, along with six points and two steals. Her 19 rebounds tied her for the third-best single-game total in school history.
