Box Score

Charleston, S.C. - Matt Restivo and Kris Bakey combined to shutout the Citadel, 1-0, to conclude a defensive minded three-game series at Riley Park on Sunday afternoon. A total of 11 runs were scored by the two teams over the weekend as each game was decided by a single run. With the victory, the Seawolves improve to 2-4 this year, while the Citadel falls to 7-4.

The Seawolves got on the board in the top of the fifth inning as Chris Sipp singled to right with one out in the frame. He advanced to second on a groundout by Chris DiBiaso and was able to score two batters later on a single by Matt Devins through the left side of the infield.

The Citadel threatened in the bottom of the eighth inning, putting a runner on second base as Josh Stackley led off with a single and advanced to second on an errant pickoff attempt by Restivo, chasing the starter from the game after seven-plus scoreless innings of work. Bakey came into the game and promptly set down the Bulldogs in order, inducing a groundout and striking out the final two batters of the inning to preserve the Seawolves lead.

The Citadel made things interesting again in the bottom of the ninth as Will Coker smacked a one-out triple to right field, but Bakey induced a popup on the infield and struck out Chris Ard to end the game and pick up his first save of the year.

Isidro Fortuna and Stephen Didsbury each went 2-for-4 to lead the Seawolves at the plate while Restivo scattered seven hits while striking out two to earn the win. Bakey struck out four of the eight batters he faced in two innings of work for the save.

The Seawolves are back in action this Wednesday in their home opener versus Marist at 3 p.m.
