Women's Basketball Announces 2006-07 Schedule

Oct. 3, 2006

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University women's basketball team has announced its 2006-07 schedule. After posting a 20-win season last year and earning a WNIT berth, the Seawolves are embarking on an ambitious schedule. The non-conference slate features three teams that finished ranked in the Top 25, including No. 13 DePaul, No. 19 Temple, and No. 25 George Washington, and nine teams that reached the 2006 postseason, including eight NCAA tournament participants.

"This year's schedule will be a challenging one," said head coach Maura McHugh. "We play eight NCAA Tournament teams, five conference championship teams and three teams that finished in the nation's top twenty five. With the caliber of teams we are facing, eight of which are on the road, we have a tough schedule this season. With a veteran laden squad, we will be ready for the challenge."

The Seawolves begin the 2006-07 season on November 10 at Marist, the 2006 MAAC Champions, in Poughkeepsie, New York. The following weekend the team will head to the Midwest, competing in the DePaul University Tournament with their first contest against Illinois State. Stony Brook will then head back east as the team completes its initial road swing with a game at Iona on November 28.

Coach McHugh's squad then opens up the home schedule when they take on George Washington, a 2006 NCAA participant, on December 2.

Following a road contest at Temple (Dec. 6), the Seawolves host Long Island rival Hofstra on December 9. Stony Brook will then hit the road again to square off against the 2006 Ivy League Champions when they play Dartmouth (Dec. 13) before heading to Central Connecticut (Dec. 15).

After an eight-day break, the Seawolves will return to action when they host Quinnipiac on December 23. Stony Brook will then conclude its non-conference slate with a road game at Sacred Heart (Dec. 28) and a home contest against local rival St. John's on December 30.

Stony Brook will open its conference schedule playing four of their first six contests on the road. The Seawolves welcome Hartford to the Indoor Sports Complex on January 4 for their conference opener before heading to Baltimore to take on UMBC on January 7. Coach McHugh and the Seawolves return home to host Boston University on January 10 and then its back on the road to take on New Hampshire (Jan. 13), Maine (Jan. 17) and Vermont (Jan. 24). Stony Brook closes out the season with six of its final 10 games at the friendly confines of the Indoor Sports Complex. The Seawolves host Albany (Jan. 27) and Binghamton (Jan. 31) before hitting the road to Hartford on February 4. Coach McHugh and her squad will wrap up the year alternating between home and road contests as they host UMBC (Feb. 7), travel to Boston University (Feb. 10), are back home against New Hampshire (Feb. 14), at Binghamton (Feb. 21), return home against Vermont (Feb. 24), travel to Albany (Feb. 28) and then close up the regular season at home against Maine (March 3).
