Stony Brook Women's Basketball Releases 2007-08 Schedule

Oct. 16, 2007

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Eight opponents that qualified for postseason play, including three that made it to the NCAA tournament, highlight the 2007-08 Stony Brook University women's basketball schedule released by first-year head coach Michele Cherry.

The slate includes six games against teams that won more than 20 games and three that won at least 25. Stony Brook will face the University of Connecticut, who made it to the NCAA Elite Eight, on the road on November 11 following the home opener against Iona College on November 9. The Seawolves host two postseason teams in Sacred Heart University and Marist College who made it to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen on November 14 and November 16, respectively.

After road games at Manhattan College and Quinnipiac University, Stony Brook travels to face Long Island-rival Hofstra University on December 4. The game at Hofstra will be televised on the Madison Square Garden (MSG) network. Following Hofstra, two of the next three opponents are against Ivy League opponents' Yale University and Dartmouth College with a home game against Central Connecticut State University sandwiched in the middle. After facing Northeastern University in Boston, Stony Brook travels to Bethlehem, Pa., to participate in the Christmas City Classic hosted by Lehigh University. The Seawolves face the University of Rhode Island on December 29 and will play either Lehigh or Brown University the next day.

Stony Brook opens the America East conference schedule at home against the University of Vermont on January 5 and faces rival Hartford on January 29. The Seawolves conclude the season at home against New Hampshire on March 8. The 2008 America East Women's Basketball Championship begins on Thursday, March 13 at Hartford.

"I am very pleased with our 2007-08 schedule. We have a very competitive non-conference schedule which will serve as a catalyst to prepare us for an always challenging America East Conference," said head coach Michele Cherry.

Stony Brook returns third-team all conference forward Dana Ferraro as its only returning starter this season. Ferraro has led the America East conference in rebounding the last two seasons. Joining Ferraro are key seniors, Cheri Davis, Morgan Patrick and Aly Young.
