Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Stony Brook's men's lacrosse team will be preparing for the 2009 season with a challenging schedule of games during it fall practice season. The Seawolves will square off against some of the top teams in the nation during the next two weekends, including 2008 national champion Syracuse.
"We are thrilled to be playing such a strong fall schedule," said Stony Brook head coach Rick Sowell. "With so many new faces on our team I guess you can say we're not just getting our feet wet, we're jumping in at the deep end of the pool. I think it will be a great experience for our entire team. We expect to play hard and ideally accelerate our learning curve. We'll see how it plays out in the short term, but as for long term, I have no doubt playing such quality programs will be very beneficial to our program."
Stony Brook will play this weekend at the Blue Jay Fall Classic hosted by Johns Hopkins. In games that will be played on Sunday, October 5 at St. Paul's School in Brooklandville, Maryland, Stony Brook will play North Carolina at 11:00 a.m. and Navy at 1:30 p.m.
On Saturday, October 11 the Seawolves will host both Syracuse and Bucknell in LaValle Stadium on the Stony Brook campus. Stony Brook and Syracuse will play at 12:00 p.m. while the Seawolves and Bison will take the field at 4:30 p.m. Syracuse and Bucknell will play in between those two contests at 2:15 p.m.
