Princeton's Addie Micir had a game-high 20 points and it shot 63 percent from the field in the first half and 58 for the game to top the Stony Brook women's basketball team, 88-41, on Saturday evening at Jadwin Gym. Junior Kairsten Nunn (Bowie, Md.) led the Seawolves with nine points. Princeton improves to 2-1 while Stony Brook is 0-4.
After Stony Brook scored the first basket of the game, Princeton went on a 13-0 run helped by 6-of-7 shooting including 1-for-1 from behind the arc. Micir's seven straight points extended the Tigers' lead to 24-10.
While Stony Brook struggled to score, Princeton continued its hot shooting and took a 33-12 lead after five straight points from Lauren Edwards. The Tigers went on a 14-2 run over three minutes but a jumper from sophomore Misha Horsey (Wyncote, Pa.) stopped the run. All told, Princeton shot 17-27 (62.6%) from the field in the first half and had a 43-18 halftime lead.
Stony Brook started to right itself offensively, connecting on three of its first six shots to start the second half. Helped by threes from Jessica Berry and Laura Johnson, Princeton went on an 11-2 run to extend its lead back up to 33, 58-25.
A free throw from Nunn to make the score 58-28 was the closest the Seawolves got in the game.
Nunn's nine points earned her America East Player of the Game honors. Horsey chipped in with seven and sophomore Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) added six.
For Princeton, Johnson had 11 points and Lauren Edwards added nine to pace a balanced Tigers' attack.
Stony Brook continues its five-game road trip when it travels to Queens to face St. John's University on Friday, November 28. Tip-off against the Red Storm is slated for 2 pm.
