Princeton Game Notes
Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Stony Brook University's women's basketball team will open its 2009-10 season on Friday night when it hosts Princeton in Pritchard Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. With more than 70% of its offense returning and the addition of a promising incoming class, the Seawolves are looking forward to a promising season. Friday's contest will be broadcast online by the Seawolves broadcasting team of Jeff Bernstein and Sue Serafini. The game can also be followed via gametracker and live video stream at goseawolves.org.
"As a team, we are not all that big, but what we do have is team speed, quickness and more depth than we have had the past couple of years," said head coach Michele Cherry. "Also, I think with the newcomers we brought in, we have added much needed scoring ability from the perimeter. We now have a number of legitimate three-point shooters which should stretch defenses."
Stony Brook will be led this season by the inside-outside combo of junior co-captains Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) and Misha Horsey (Wyncote, Pa.). The duo has played in every game since arriving on campus, with Horsey starting all 60 games at the point guard position. Jeter, a third team All-America East selection last season, led the team with 12.5 ppg and 6.2 rpg last season.
Stony Brook hold a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series. Tonight's home game is the first of many for Stony Brook, which will host 15 tilts in Pritchard Gymnasium this season--the most home contests in its Division I history and the most all-time since 1995-96. This will be the first time in school history that the Seawolves open their season against an Ivy League school. Since making the move to Division I in 1999-00, Stony Brook is 4-6 in season openers with all four victories coming at home.
