College Park, Md. - Stony Brook University's women's basketball wraps up 2009 with a pair of games at the Terrapin Classic. SBU will face defending ACC champions Maryland on Sunday night before playing UNC-Wilmington on Monday afternoon. This is the first time the Seawolves have faced either of these programs and the first time Stony Brook has played any opponent from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

This is the third consecutive season the Seawolves have finished their non-conference slate with a road tournament. Last season, SBU competed in the Loyola Marymount Holiday Tournament and played in the Lehigh Tournament in 2007-08.

Scouting Maryland
The Terrapins enter this weekend with a 9-2 record going 8-0 at home. Having lost four starters from last year's squad, Maryland has had a number of freshmen step up this season. Freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang leads three Terps in double-figure scoring this season with a 13.7 points per game average while classmate Tianna Hawkins is grabbing a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game.

Maryland has already defeated one America East opponent this year, beating New Hampshire, 63-43, in November. The Terps have yet to have a game decided by ten points or less, winning their nine contests by an average of 22.5 points while losing games by an average of 20.5 points.

Scouting UNC-Wilmington
The Seahawks enter this weekend with a 4-5 record after an 84-71 defeat by Kent State. Stony Brook and UNC-Wilmington both faced Monmouth earlier this season with the Seawolves losing, 61-45, while the Seahawks were victorious, 63-49. The Seahawks are in the middle of a five-game road trip in which they will compete in Ohio, Maryland and Georgia.

Junior Brittany Blackwell has been UNC-Wilmington's leader this season, recording team-highs in points per game (14.3) rebounds (9.0) assists (3.0) and steals (2.6).

Last Time Out
For the second straight game Stony Brook University's women's basketball team fell just short of completing a double-digit comeback when it lost to Hofstra, 67-61, at the Mack Sports Complex in Hempstead, N.Y. on Monday night. Junior Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) and freshman Sam Landers (Springfield, Va.) tied for the game high with 14 points for Stony Brook.

Twice SBU cut Hofstra's lead to three points in the second half, with the second coming on a three from junior Cassie Klockgether with just ten seconds remaining. However, the Pride hit five of its eight free throw attempts down the stretch to the ice game.

Senior Crystal Rushin had a career game, posting new highs in points, assists and steals.
