Stony Brook University's women's basketball team will face Fairfield for the first time in school history when the Stags visit Pritchard Gymnasium on Wednesday night. Fairfield is one of five teams the Seawolves have on their schedule that they've never faced before. SBU is 1-1 against first-time opponents this season, having defeated St. Francis (N.Y.) and lost to Robert Morris. Wednesday's game will be broadcast locally on WUSB 90.1 FM by the Seawolves broadcasting team of Jeff Bernstein and Sue Serafini. Scouting Fairfield
The Stags enter tonight's matchup with a 4-1 record after a 68-54 defeat of Mount St. Mary's last Thursday. Fairfield and Stony Brook have one common opponent so far this season as the Stags beat St. Francis (N.Y.) 62-46. SBU defeated the Terriers on Sunday, 71-40.
Fairfield is led by forward Stephanie Geehan, who is averaging 16.6 points and 12.0 points per game. The senior is making 47% of her field goal attempts and is a perfect 15-15 from the free throw this season. Joining Geehan in double-figure scoring is guard Desiree Pina with 14.6 ppg. She is averaging a team-high 36.6 minutes per game and has dished out 15 assists.
Last Time Out
Behind a pair of double-doubles from senior Joia Daniels (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore Destiny Jacobs (Glen Burnie, Md.), Stony Brook toppled St. Francis (N.Y.), 71-40, on Sunday afternoon in Pritchard Gymnasium. Junior Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) led all scorers with 20, while Daniels had 15 and Jacobs ten.
Stony Brook grabbed a season-high 26 offensive rebounds and 57 total rebounds. Jacobs had a team-best 11 boards while Daniels finished with ten. The Seawolves turned the offensive rebounds into 27 second-chance points. When Stony Brook wasn't using the offensive glass to score they were capitalizing off mistakes made by St. Francis, converting 22 total turnovers into 29 points.
