Cambridge, Mass. -
Senior Michael Tansey (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was named America East Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday after he led the Seawolves to two victories at Coastal Carolina's Caravelle Resort Classic over the weekend.
Tansey tallied two hits and an RBI in the Seawolves 8-2 victory over Creighton on Friday, including the go-ahead home run in fourth inning. He then went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored in SBU's 6-3 win over IPFW on Saturday as he hit his second home run of the weekend, a three-run shot in the fourth inning that broke a 1-1 tie and gave SBU a lead it would not relinquish. Tansey hit .357 (6-for-17) with two home runs and six RBI in Stony Brook's four games at the Resort Classic.
The Seawolves return to action on Saturday, traveling to take Virginia Commonwealth for the start of a three-game series. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
