Cambridge, Mass. -
A Stony Brook University men's lacrosse player has earned America East Conference honors for the first time this season when sophomore attack Jordan McBride (New Westminster, B.C.) was named the Co-America East Player of the Week the league announced today. He will share the award with Alex Hopmann from UMBC.
McBride led Stony Brook with five goals apiece in games at Lafayette and Denver last week, the most goals he has scored in a game this season. At Lafayette he scored three times in a 3:18 span in the first quarter to help Stony Brook jump out to a quick 5-0 lead that helped carry the team to a 12-9 victory. He did it again at Denver, scoring the game's first goal just 41 seconds in and then scoring twice more in the first quarter as SBU built a 6-2 lead. His two assists and three ground balls against Denver also matched his previous career bests in those categories.
Stony Brook will open America East play this weekend when it will host No. 8 UMBC on Saturday, March 28 at 2:30 p.m. in LaValle Stadium. The game will be part of the annual Lacrosse for Autism event, which will also feature a game at Noon between No. 10 Duke and Dartmouth.
