Stony Brook's swimming and diving teams lost to Massachusetts in the first home meet of the season. The men's team lost 184-114 while the women lost 159-141. The men's team was led by junior Sean Conway (Oakdale, N.Y.) and Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) who each won two events. Freshman Renee Deschenes (Winnipeg, Manitoba) led the women with three victories.
Conway finished first in the 50 and 100 free with times of 21.86 and 47.97. Ochmanski won the 100 fly in 54.17 and 200 free in 1:45.21, both Stony Brook highs this season. Junior Cliff Gonzalez (White Plains, N.Y.) took first in the 100 breast and senior Matthew McCort (Commack, N.Y.) won the 200 fly to pace the men's team.
Deschenes continued her strong start, winning the 100 and 200 back and the 200 fly. Her time in the 100 back (57.91) nearly broke the school record of 57.48.
Freshman Veronica Reid (Duncan, British Columbia) paced the women's team with victories in the 100 and 200 breast, and junior Darcy Heuser (Centreville, Ohio) won the 100 and 200 free.
Freshman Allison Zelnick (Troy, Ohio) finished first in the 50 free (25.05).
Both squads return to action next Saturday at Maine.
