Looking to improve to 3-2 for the first time since 2005-06, the Stony Brook women's basketball team hosts the Monmouth Hawks on Tuesday in the first of three home games this week. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Stony Brook University's women's basketball team rallied from an eight-point second half deficit for an 81-77 victory over the Nicholls State Colonels at Pritchard Gymnasium on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Sam Landers (Springfield, Va.) led the Seawolves with a career-high 16 points including four free throws in the final 12 seconds.
Landers went 6-for-6 from the line and dished out five assists. Senior Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) added a season-high 15 points and eight rebounds while junior Destiny Jacobs (Glen Burnie, Md.) recorded her fourth career double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds).

Making her first start of the season, Landers scored a career-best 16 points against Nicholls State on Wednesday ... the Seawolves shot 43.9 percent from the field, the third time this season that Stony Brook has shot over 40 percent ... Stony Brook is 2-2 for the first time since 2007-08 ... the Seawolves lead the America East and ranks 45th in the country in scoring offense (75.8 points per game) ... SBU also leads the conference and ranks 20th in the nation in free throw percentage (.782) ... Stony Brook went 27-for-34 from the free throw line against Nicholls State ... it is the first time they made more than 25 free throws since going 25-for-39 against Yale on Dec. 8, 2008 ... the Seawolves out-scored the Nicholls State bench, 31-13 ... Stony Brook's bench has out-scored its opponents bench, 140-63, this season ... the Seawolves have had a different leading scorer in each game this season ... nine different players have scored in double-figures for Stony Brook this season ... after allowing Nicholls to shoot 46.7 percent in the first half, Stony Brook held the Colonels to 36.4 shooting in the second half ... the Seawolves forced Nicholls State into 24 turnovers ... it is the third time this season Stony Brook has forced 24 or more turnovers ... sophomore Amanda Corona (North Hollywood, Calif.) played a season-high 17 minutes against Nicholls ... Scouting Monmouth
Monmouth has won three of its last four games after dropping its opener at Maryland. The Hawks won home games over Longwood and Lafayette last week.
The Hawks are led by sophomore guard Alysha Womack, who is averaging a team-high 13.8 points per game. Womack was named the NEC Rookie of the Year as a freshman and was named to the 2010-11 preseason All-NEC team.
Monmouth returns all but 18 points of its scoring from a season ago when six of its top seven scorers were freshman. The Hawks were picked to finish fifth in the NEC Preseason poll.
The Hawks have been led by their defense this season, allowing just 58.6 points per game. They have held their last four opponents to 60 points or fewer.
