Women's Basketball to face LIU on Sunday

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Following an eight-day break for final exams, the Stony Brook University women's basketball team will try to snap a three-game losing skid on Sunday against the Long Island Blackbirds. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

Last time out
Stony Brook lost its third straight game on Saturday afternoon at the Smith Center as the George Washington Colonials shot 50 percent on their way to a 69-49 victory. Sophomore Sam Landers (Springfield, Va.) led the Seawolves with 15 points.

Scouting Long Island
The Blackbirds snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday with a 67-57 victory over Delaware State. LIU had won four of its first five games before the three-game losing streak.

Kiara Evans is a averaging a team-high 14.0 points per game and scored a career-best 22 against Delaware State. Ashley Palmer is averaging 11.4 points per game and leads the Northeast Conference in rebouding (9.4 per game).

LIU has played one America East opponent already this season, defeating preseason conference favorite Boston University, 71-59, on Nov. 27 at the LIU Turkey Classic.

The Blackbirds were picked first in the Northeast Conference preseason poll. LIU returns four of five starters that won 22 games and advanced to the NEC Championship game.

All-Time Series
The Seawolves lead the all-time series, 3-2. This will be the third meeting between the schools since Stony Brook moved to Division I in 1999. The other three meetings took place from 1974-76.

Last meeting (Nov. 20, 2001)
Tamika Dudley had 23 points and Kim Mac Millan scored 20 to lead Long Island University to an 81-73 win over Stony Brook at the SBU Sports Complex.

Sherry Jordan led all scorers with 26 points, 20 of those coming in the second half. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had seven assists. Jill George narrowly missed recording a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Danielle DeGiorgio chipped in with 11 points and three boards.
