Women's Basketball to Host Vermont on Tuesday Night

Feb. 22, 2010

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's women's basketball team looks to separate itself with a win from a trio of teams with six conference wins when its hosts Vermont on Tuesday night in Pritchard Gymnasium. The Seawolves are knotted with UMBC and Binghamton with just two games remaining in conference play. Prior to the game, Stony Brook's Department of Athletics will honor junior Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) who scored her 1,000th career point last week against Boston University. Tuesday's game can be heard locally on WUSB 90.1 FM with Jeff Bernstein `91 calling the action. You can also follow the game online via Gametracker and live video stream available at www.goseawolves.org.

Scouting Vermont
The Catamounts enter Tuesday's contest sitting in second place in the America East Conference with a 12-2 record. Vermont is coming off a 67-50 victory over UMBC on Sunday in which four of its five starters scored in double-figures. Senior Courtnay Pilypaitis led the way with 17 points and 10 assists. She is third in the conference in scoring with a 15.1 average while teammate May Kotsopoulos is tops in the AE at 17.8 points per game.

Pilypaitis and Kotsopoulos combined to score 39 points in the Catamounts' 67-45 victory over Stony Brook earlier this season. The Seawolves trailed by 10 at halftime, but a 16-2 run early in the second half by Vermont put the game out of reach. Jeter led SBU with 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

Last Time Out
Junior Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) scored her 1,000th career point and finished the night with a game-high 22, but it wasn't enough as Stony Brook lost to Boston University, 69-59, on Wednesday night in Agganis Arena. Jeter is the 14th player in school history to record 1,000 points and only the sixth to do so in just three years.

Stony Brook led by as many as eight in the first half, but a balanced scoring attack by the Terriers proved to be too much. BU had four players score in double-figures and shot 52.9% from beyond the arc. Senior Crystal Rushin (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds.
