Women's Hoops travels to face UVM on Wednesday

Jan. 11, 2011

Stony Brook, N.Y. - In search of its first America East victory, the Stony Brook University women's basketball team heads north to take on the two-time defending conference champion Vermont Catamounts on Wednesday at Patrick Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Last time out
The Seawolves (3-11, 0-2 AE) dropped an America East contest to the Binghamton Bearcats, 63-43, on Thursday night at the Events Center. Sophomore Sam Landers (Springfield, Va.) matched her career-best with a game-high 16 points.

Scouting Vermont
Picked sixth in the America East preseason coaches poll, the Catamounts (0-15, 0-2 AE) are still in search of their first victory of the season. UVM enters Wednesday's game off a 56-43 loss to Boston University on Sunday.

The two-time defending America East champions did not return a starter from last year's squad that went 27-7 and defeated Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Catamounts returned just 19.3 percent of their scoring and 32.8 percent of their rebounding from last year.

The Catamounts eight returning letterwinners combined to play just 24.2 percent of the available minutes a season ago. Senior forward Tonya Young leads the team in scoring (9.3 points per game) while sophomore Lauren Buschmann is averaging 8.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest.

All-Time Series
Vermont has won the last six meetings between the schools and leads the all-time series, 12-7. Stony Brook has not beaten Vermont since knocking off the Catamounts 96-87 in overtime on Feb. 24, 2007. SBU's last win at Patrick Gymnasium came in that same season, a 72-71 triumph on Jan. 24, 2007.

Last meeting
Stony Brook fell to Vermont, 64-49, at Pritchard Gymnasium on Feb. 23, 2010. The Seawolves led by as many as seven in the first half, but an 18-0 run by the Catamounts at the beginning of the second put Stony Brook in a hole it could not climb out of. Sophomore Destiny Jacobs (Glen Burnie, Md.) led the Seawolves with 14 points and five rebounds.
